The Glory of God
“The Lord your God is great indeed! He delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because the Lord loves Israel with an eternal love, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.” . . . This passage is a source of great encouragement that God desires to glorify his name through his people to the whole world. The grandeur of the kingdom of Solomon and his incredible wisdom gave widespread testimony to the greatness and majesty of the God of Israel. The whole earth was talking about the glory of Solomon. People from every country traveled just to see what the Lord had done and to hear the wisdom God had given this king. And when the Queen of Sheba arrived in Jerusalem, she didn’t believe Solomon’s reputation until she saw it with her own eyes. “Truly I had not heard the half of it!” she said (1 Kings 10:7). The king’s wisdom and grandeur so far exceeded what this pagan queen expected that even she was drawn into praise to God. Just as Solomon’s reputation brought glory to the name of the Lord and made the whole world aware of God’s greatness, we can live in such a way that God’s name will be honored.
Prayers:
LORD, glorify yourself in my life so that others might see you and be drawn to you. I have no palaces, jewels, or servants, and I don’t have the wisdom of Solomon, but I have you dwelling in my heart! Enable me by your Spirit to live each day in a way that causes others to marvel at your greatness.
